「I’m completely DONE. The last convention of this year has been successfully visited and completed last weekend. My first month of unemployment benefits also ended up in my bank account and now I can spend every day cycling between Fuwanovel dealings and writing applications for another deadbeat [I think he means dead-end -Zaka] job that doesn’t make me as happy as dealing with the visual novel scene does, yay! Well, I’ve been participating in Weiterbildungen [“further education” but probably not of the university kind] an[d] Online-Courses and there’s a job fair next week… so I’m not sleeping on my neetbux experience like certain other Swedish men do (giga subtle subtweet)[The amount of work to maintain Swedish neetbux was surprisingly heavy back in the day… I decided just trying to finish my education would be easier. Nobody ask me how long I’ve stalled on getting an internship to finish it by now though].
So last weekend, I attended the great volunteer-organized event known as Connichi 2026 in Wiesbaden, Germany and met a lot of people in an environment i can only describe as soul-soothing. Everyone was so ridiculously nice to each other and while it’s a convention that’s attended by approximately 60000 people, it felt so cozy and fun. It didn’t feel as commercialized like GamesCom or DoKomi have become for many years. I feel this event was a true winding-down period to my mind and I’m glad I could spend the time with people I really love — be it the troupe [Of clowns?] around the German Touhou community or visual novel fans cosplaying characters from Umineko, Danganronpa or Needy Girl Overdose.
However, this was the last major convention I will visit this year. From now on Fuwa becomes [will be] my main priority to achieve smooth and high productivity in. Here’s a gallery of some highlights of the event!
Well, then let’s get right into the updates! [I’d just like to remark on the Cultured burger being eaten with knife and fork. Nothing like those barbaric Americans. (I usually eat my burgers with my hands though. Must have had bad influences)]
At first we have the fan translation for a DEATH NOTE NDS game which… I can’t find on VNDB?! Usually I follow AGTs (Anime Game Translations) quite religiously, but this one came out of the woodwork because it’s NOT on VNDB?!. Well, the storyline veers close to the anime starting from Light’s discovery of the Death Note object until the Yellow Box Warehouse [Hata tried to put some spoiler information here using the DISCORD spoiler markup smdh.] This means it completely adapts the story of the anime. I treat this as another way to re-play the story, but it’s not really attractive to me. I’ve probably experienced the same story like six times: once in English dub, twice in German dub, twice in Japanese. And for the sixth time I finally read the manga + additions. It’s still one of the best cat & mouse stories I’ve experienced in my life. [I only ever read it once, as the English scanlation. My god was that a long time ago. I don’t think I’d started actually being a weeb yet, I was just reading it because it was a good comic.]
Oh, another Butcha-U kino title about to release this month? I have to admit after the last Anime NYC panel where MangaGamer barely announced anything, I was of the opinion that they fell off completely, but when I actually checked their new website—which I still super dislike—I noticed they’re still juggling like 7 or 8 games with Rance X on top. [Last time he en-dashed and used spaces between (I have corrected to spaced em-dash), now he’s em-dashing with no spaces. Who the hell does he think he is? Does he think he runs this website or something?] I think even though they aren’t one of the powerhouses in terms of frequency of localizing new titles anymore, they’re still busy enough.
How I met my Health Hentai Neighbors is another sequel to the other Clock Up (pardon, CLOCKUP [We can compromise on Cockup, yeah?]) Kenzen games and I remember how my mouth fell agape when I noticed the second game in the series featured DJT as sexually involved character… I wonder how daring this sex-positive game will be… maybe involve a certain politician that looks like a vampire?
Scrolling down, we find Laplacian with a new game called Monochrome Serenade. Laplacian always delivers high quality works, so I’m also curious how this one will turn out. Later this month we will release a review of one of their newest titles, at least I hope so, so there won’t be a lack of Laplacian related content on the blog. The release is being delayed to 2027 so it’s going to take a loooong while [Real erogamers know that this is actually a short while]. It does look like they’re planning a simultaneous release though?
Dualtail never stops delivering with their neverending flood of kickstarters for their VenusBlood games which always end up being funded in no time. Really, these guys must be working like clockwork and pre-plan their kickstarters already when the previous game isn’t even out. Impressive work ethic, ngl. The next game they have now funded with their infinite money glitch method is VenusBlood LAGOON, another SRPG Powerhouse full of corruption, tentacles and a rich, deep storyline with tough gameplay sections.
Oh, this is a big one. On the 4th of September NITRO ORIGIN finally released the Steam port of the Xbox 360 Remake for Phantom -Phantom of Inferno-. I was able to buy the game on launch and investigate how the text reads and I can proudly say that there are no machine translation shenanigans in there, so people can wholeheartedly buy it. At least I would want to say that, but the lack of eroi content still hurts, so waiting for the potentially shadowdropped Phantom INTEGRATION fan project is still on the table if you want the definitive experience that Urobuchi has created [If you’re reading this and work for that project, please check your damn email and/or VNDB threads. You haven’t responded to my email about helping for like a week now -Zakamutt].
Actually, this game now made me curious about the anime adaptations as well, so I might suggest them in one of the next Fuwanovel Anime Club events. However, since the participants are all anime-boomers, they might want to watch Sailor Moon in the original Japanese again… and the French participants will go crash out… [I’m really more of a 2010s guy but I did catch some Swedish-dubbed episodes of it in my youth so I was interested enough to give it a middling vote. Rip the guy that wanted non-magical shoujo though.]
The Goddess of Tears ~Restoration~ is announced for a December Christmas release! Yeah, the otome players will be happy about this one as they rarely (if anything) receive R18 otome releases. I can think of only a few that released in the last years which is unfortunate because girlies and danshis need their SPICE. What would the world be without SPICE? What would life be without SPICE? “A miserable pile of secrets!”
Fortunately, with RinaMohn we finally (after having sought so long and navigated multiple interpersonal struggles with candidates) [Are you sure we’re supposed to say this? Eh whatever, let’s just hope we all get along this time] found someone armed and ready to cover Otome on the FuwaBlog! Funny story: I spotted her randomly browsing my timeline on Twitter while I was commuting to GamesCom a few weeks ago and then I just shot my shot after years of not being in contact with her. The mentality of “worst she can say is no” sometimes actually works out! [People on the outside may not understand how crucial Hata is to the work and how much he actually contributes. Let me assure you that despite certain lacunae in his abilities, he is very important]
Lastly, I want to talk about is Trap Yuri Tempest which is the new license from Eroge Japan and Sanuk Inc. which will release on the 25th September. It’s a game by formerly Nounai Kanojo now No~Strike person Nishida Hajime, which is a sequel to Trap Yuri Garden. Without bragging, I’m close in contact with them for years now and have him in my discord friendlist, so maybe… after we eventually got our obligations under control I would like to organize an interview with this legend. Especially because the opening music choices of these games are also nothing short of legendary—looking at Legend of Millenium or Daisuki Revolution. These songs don’t have any right to go so fucking hard!
Anyways, I think I’m done with my section. This time I talked a little more about the games. Maybe Zaka can add some interesting tidbits do the Phantom fan translation project since he’s in contact with the people running it [No I’m not. PLEASE GET BACK TO ME JANE-AiR I HAVE A WHOLE H SCENE TRANSLATED WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT?].
